Meta, the parent company of Instagram, announced plans to introduce a new feature on the social media platform in June 2024, enabling Nigerian creators to monetize their content.

Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs, revealed this during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa.

The feature aims to empower Nigerian creators to earn a livelihood through the platform. Clegg expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for facilitating an executive order crucial to Meta-backed deep-sea cable infrastructure landing in Nigeria.

This infrastructure project, set to commence in the first quarter of 2025, is anticipated to have a $37 billion economic impact across Africa in the next few years.

President Tinubu emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to lead the continent in digital technology, stressing the importance of preparing youths for the AI-enabled future.

He pledged his administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for technological advancement and fostering partnerships to drive digital economic expansion.

Minister Bosun Tijani highlighted the significance of Meta platforms in Nigeria and called for collaborative efforts to promote development in the digital economy sector and connect Africa to global prosperity.
