Economic Hardship: Ozekhome Blasts Government Over Fuel Subsidy Removal

A senior advocate of Nigeria and Professor of Law, Mike Ozekhome has criticised the government’s removal of fuel subsidy on May 29 2023.

In an interview monitored by the communicator’s blog on Tuesday, Ozekhome described the current situation of Nigeria as what he called a renewed poverty which has affected many Nigerians who are finding it hard to make a living.

He stated that,with this present situation in the country, it is high time that the federal government should go back to the drawing board to look at ways in which the effect of fuel subsidy can be reduced in the lives of the masses.

In her submission the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon Nkiruka Onyejeocha said that with the issue on ground, Nigerians should exercise some patience towards its campaign promises which she said that will be made in due time.

In regards to the promises made by the government in its memorandum of understanding signed some months back, she revealed that the government has commenced series of engagements with various stakeholders as a way of reassuring the people that their grievances are being worked on.

On the issue of hunger in the land, she revealed that the presidency had met with the ministry of agriculture in looking at measures to stop the food crisis in the country.

The minister however called on the Nigerian Labour congress to understand the times that are in , as the government is trying its best to tackle the situation with immediate effect.

It would be recalled that there was a nationwide protest today across all parts of the country over the economic hardship .
