Nigerians have slammed the house of representatives over the decision to return to the old national anthem.
While reacting to the development , some Nigerians on their various social media platforms described the news as an unimportant act which according to them should not be the major point of agenda in the country.
According to a student of LeadCity University, Favour Dada, he said that such a plan is baseless due to the fact that the country is faced with economic hardship .
It would be recalled that the House of Representatives on Thursday passed for a second reading a bill seeking a return to the old national anthem.
Leading the debate on the general principles of the bill, the sponsor of the proposed law, Julius Ihonvbere, anchored his argument on the need for patriotism and nationalism.
In his contribution, Chinda, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party noted that the old national anthem was a colonial heritage which should not be considered in a post-independent Nigeria.
